How to properly store a Christmas Tree

Every year millions of people across the world celebrate the Christmas holiday by putting up a Christmas tree in their home and placing presents underneath it. Unfortunately, getting a new pine Christmas tree every year is not only expensive, but it takes a lot of time and effort to shop for, and place in your home. Because of all the disadvantage of getting a real Christmas tree, getting an artificial tree would be a great idea. While they are cheaper and require less maintenance, the artificial tree can begin to deteriorate if it is not properly stored. To ensure the tree is properly stored, there are various steps that should be followed.

The first step in properly storing an artificial Christmas tree is to take the tree down and disassemble it according to the instructions. Most artificial Christmas trees can be disassembled into a few different pieces and more modernized artificial trees take no more than a few minutes to disassemble. By not disassembling the tree you run the risk that the screws and bolts holding the tree together could eventually rust over. Eventually, this could ruin the structural integrity of the tree. Furthermore, all ornaments and light bulbs on the tree should be removed. If the lighting system is not stored properly, and a bulb breaks all of the bulbs on the tree may cease to operate properly.

The second step in properly storing an artificial Christmas tree is to find a unit in which to store the tree. Most likely, the artificial tree that you purchase will come in a temporary cardboard box, which will not act as a good storage device going forward. The best possible Christmas tree storage device will be plastic or rubber storage crate. The benefit of this type of crate is that the items in the container will not be ruined in the event the crate gets wet. Furthermore, the crate should be large enough to contain all of the items that are needed for the tree. This should include not only the tree itself, but all the lights and decorations that are placed on the tree.

The third step in properly storing an artificial Christmas tree is to find a place in your home to store the tree. The best place to store your tree would be in a closet that is kept in room temperature. Like many other products, a tree that is stored in hot or cold temperatures will begin to break down over time. Because of this, finding a closet with a consistent temperature is important. If you do not have available space inside your home, then choosing an attic or garage would also work. However, it is important that the location of your storage spot is dry year round.

Finally, prior to putting the tree up and taking the tree down, it is important that you clean the tree fully. This will help prevent infestation and will ensure that you can enjoy using the tree for years.

Different types of Christmas Lights

Commercial-christmas-trees-everest

There are many different types of Christmas Lights. Years ago when they first came out, they were the basic round lights or teardrop shaped lights in 4 or 5 different colors. Now there are countless shapes, sizes and colors. The technology used to create these lights is awesome. Every year as you walk through a department store in that search for the ultimate decoration, you are somewhat awestruck at the countless choices that are there.

Almost everywhere you look during the Holiday Season you will find Christmas Lights strung around houses, and outside trees, and bushes. Christmas time is a festive season and Christmas Lights are a main attraction used to celebrate this time of year. Every year a giant Christmas tree is put up at the White House where thousands Of Christmas lights are used to illuminate this giant tree. People gather from all over the globe to witness this awesome display. From the White House Christmas tree on down to an artificial 3 foot tree in a one room apartment, people take there time and skills to decorate this brilliant example of the spirit of Christmas.

Many people start to catch the Holiday fever around Thanksgiving and as you travel around the city and neighborhoods you either see men on ladders with their bundles of lights in one hand and a staple gun in the other performing their yearly task with their children looking up with excited eyes waiting for dad to turn an ordinary house into a magic wonderland or a crew hanging lights around different parts of the city.

In the last twenty years or so it has become somewhat of a sport or contest to see who can create the most beautiful or attractive display around the yard or house.

Traveling down the Interstate during the Holiday season, you will see Tractor trailers with lights draped from the front of the cab to the back end of a Peterbuilt or Mack truck almost expecting to see Jolly old St. Nick hugging the giant steering wheel.

In warmer climates such as Florida or California, motorcycles with Santa Clauses cruise down the highways with colorful lights twinkling from spoke to spoke grabbing the attention of other motorists.

Several fashion designers are even decorating outlandish garb with battery operated strings of lights as their models strut up and down the runways as if they were walking Christmas trees.

As the Holiday season winds down people usually wait til a week or so after the New Year to reluctantly disassemble their creations. But, alot of folks are hesitant to even do that and occasionally when you drive by a house, you will still see a lighted tree still standing in a picture window or a lone house with it's lights still proudly blazing around the eves up intil february as a little reminder that the Spirit of Christmas and these beautiful lights lives on.

The Black Christmas Tree?

Black_christmas_tree
While I am pretty traditional when it comes to Christmas, a new post-modern Chirstmas trend has caught my eye, the black Christmas tree. This artificial tree has seem many varieties and developments over the years, from plastic, fiber to aluminum and fiber optics, but still this black tree seems far-fetched at first. The timeless evergreen still is everyone favourite, but for those living in with modern Italian furniture, a black Christmas tree can be quite stylish.  A black tree with monochrome decorations and with white artificial snow done just right, it can be pretty cool. This catches the forever-popular “Black-and-white” art motif style, while not everyone is a fan, it still has a big following in the interior design world. 2005 is when the black-colored artificial Christmas tree is a trend that found its way to America from the United Kingdom.

To consider, it provides contrast in a room with the white blinds, white or off white carpet, flat white painted walls, with the black or white leather furniture and stainless steel kitchens. So if you consider this time of interior design, a evergreen coloured tree seems a little out of place, and a black (and white) tree fits right in this world. The choices are as limitless as the size of trees. They can come with lights attached, and some models have branches frosted with white or metallic colored artificial snow. In 2009, black Christmas trees emerged once more as a sophisticated, fashionable alternative to traditional green Christmas trees, and of course it makes a conversation piece at Christmas parties or dinners.

With a black Christmas tree, decorating offers you similar choices as you would have with any other color. You could fine your old ornaments or lights work well, or you might want to step up and find some less traditional light colors and decorations to match this modern style. As you already know black is probably the most basic and versatile color to work with, whether it be interior design or fashion in general. If you want to run with this post-modern style, try metallic angels with small blue LED tree lights trimmed with white flocking to get an artsy snow look. Gold ornaments with red ribbons work or green garland with white reindeer will give you a special feel as the reindeer dash through the snow. The option to make a fashion statement with a black tree can be a lot of fun, as long as you keep with the spirit of the season.

So if your home is decorated with black and white or modern Italian furniture, consider a black tree. For me and I’m sure the rest of you, we will stick to more traditional colors and styles, check out the links below for more Christmas tree and decorating tips.

How To Make the Perfect Christmas Card Holder

Christmas card holders can be a very attractive way to display the many different holiday cards you receive each year. In this article, I will explain how to make the perfect card holder that can hold many cards. This is a very simple and attractive card holder that takes only minutes to assemble.

Supplies

First of all you need to gather all of the supplies you will need. You will first need a can. The size of the can is up to you; just make sure that you use a can that is at least the length of most typical Christmas cards. Large coffee cans are a good option. Next, you need yarn. I recommend getting a red or green yarn to go with the holiday season, however, any color you have lying around will be okay. Now you need to purchase some fabric glue. This can be found at all retail stores for a very low cost. Finally, you need to get 4 small wooden blocks. These can also be found at any sewing or craft store. The blocks will be used as the legs of your Christmas card holder, so do not get anything too large. The blocks need to fit the bottom of the can that you are using comfortably.

Making Your Christmas Card Holder

Now that you have all of your supplies at hand, it is time to make your Christmas card holder. First, with the lid on the can, you need to place a drop of glue in the center of the can. You now want to take your roll of yarn and stick the end of it to the glue. Wait until it dries just a little bit, then you are ready to continue. Now, take the roll of yarn and wrap it around the coffee can. Every time you come to the top or bottom of the can you want to cross the yarn over the spot you glued and continue rolling. Cross it over the opposite way; don't just roll the yarn straight around the can. So you are going to roll, cross, roll, cross, until the entire can is covered. When complete, make sure you end the yarn at the bottom or top of the can and glue the end of the yarn in the center of the can as well. It is best to glue it to the bottom of the can; this part will not be seen when complete. Now you want to turn your can over, and apply your 4 little wooden blocks for the legs. Use your glue and place it on the bottom of each block then firmly apply to the can. The legs are not for show either; they are simply to keep the can stable. If you prefer, you can paint the legs to match the yarn before assembling your can. Now that the legs have been applied, allow them to dry. Once they are dry, your Christmas card holder is complete.

Card

Using Your Christmas Card Holder

When you receive a new card in the mail, you are now ready to put it on your holder. This is very simply done by opening the card and sliding it through one piece of yarn on your Christmas card holder. Pull it through to where the card creases in order to display. These Christmas card holders will hold many cards, probably all of the cards you will get in a season. When Christmas is over simply remove the cards and store your holder for future use.

Christmas card holders are the fun and creative way to display all of your holiday greetings. Let your creative side kick in, and make a Christmas card holder this holiday season.

Protect your Artificial Christmas Tree for years safely in a Storage Bag

Once the festivities of the Christmas season has come to an end, it is now time to put away your artificial tree. Purchasing an artificial tree is an investment, knowing that you can use it year after year. As with any investment, you should protect it. The majority of consumers will reuse the original box that the tree came home in, while others opt for a durable storage bag. There are several options for Christmas tree storage bags, giving you many choices that are not only durable, but also affordable.

Once your tree has been fluffed and decorated with lights and ornaments, it is difficult to compress the tree in such a small area to fit into the box when it is time to take it down. You may damage the tips of the branches and the general structure by bending and folding them so tightly, as well as any possible damage to the lights left on the tree. Corrugated boxes are breading grounds for insects and rodents, which is not what you want to find next year when you pull the box down from the attic and open. If the box becomes wet or damp, mold can grow and damage your branches, tips and needles. The smell of mold from the box will engulf your tree and when you set up your tree the following year, you will release these mold spores into your home.

Christmas tree storage bags are designed to cover your full tree and provide ease of transport for storage. Several brands come with a heavy duty rolling tree stand, which will provide convenience in moving your tree around your home and then into the storage area. The bag will surround your tree and not crush the limbs and needles, allowing you the option to leave your lights and ornaments on the tree. If your tree is large and heavy, be sure to look for a storage bag with a carrying handle on both ends. Larger trees may require a two-person team to move to your storage area, while smaller trees will be easy to carry using one handle in the middle. A storage bag will not protect your tree from being crushed if something is placed directly on it, so allow for adequate room in your storage for your Christmas tree.

You will find a large variety of Christmas tree storage bags to choose from, and they are readily available at many retail locations. There are several do-it-yourself videos and instructions that can be found on the Internet for those wanting to construct their own bag. The cost of a Christmas tree storage bag will range depending upon the materials used in construction of the bag, and the options available. Making sure that your bag has sturdy handles and zippers, as well as a heavy duty bag material will ensure that you are purchasing a great storage bag that will protect your artificial tree for many years to come.

Decorating With Pre-Lit Christmas Wreaths

Anl190
Decorating your home with a pre-lit Christmas wreath can bring warmth and Christmas spirit to any home. Christmas wreathes are a timely staple to the holiday season. Best of all, pre-lit Christmas wreathes can be used every season if properly stored. You can purchase special wreath storing bags and hard plastic containers at most home and department stores.

A Prelit Christmas wreath comes in an assortment of sizes, artificial foliage, and many different light combinations. Making a choice on which style to buy will be your hardest task. Consider the size of your door or windows on which you will hang your wreath. You don't want to purchase a wreath that is too small for a door or window. If you plan on hanging a wreath inside your home, consider where you want to hang it. A popular place to secure a wreath inside the home, is above a mantle. Use ribbon to accentuate a theme or color that is prevalent in your home around the holidays. Add sparkle to your wreath by adding beautiful accents that can be bought at a craft store. Pre-lit Christmas wreathes don't necessarily have to be green in color. Many holiday stores offer wreathes in white, red, and even bright pastel colors.

You can make a statement at your holiday party by placing a smaller wreath in the center of your dining room table. Place a large glass vase or votive in the middle of the wreath and rest a candle in the center for a dramatic effect. Another unique way to use a pre-lit Christmas wreath, is to place it around a chandelier in your home. Here is a trick if you are not sure what the dimensions will be when looking for a correct fit. Use some craft wire to bend around your chandelier and cut the appropriate length. Take the cut wire to the store with you and place it around a wreath that measures correctly to the wire's length. Use the outer wire as a reference, not the loose foliage. You can even use elegant ribbon to hang the wreath from the chandelier horizontally. Add accents to the wreath for a more exquisite appeal.

Don't just use one in your home on a big blank wall. A great effect can be accomplished by placing three wreathes right next to each other, or vertically on a wall. In order to get a real "wow" factor with this design concept, keep the wreathes decorated the same but with different bow placement. Keep the wreathes simple but dramatic with color schemes. Use a different color than your usual red and green Christmas colors. Try a more untypical color like, burgundy, or a blue. This would also be a great time to choose a different foliage color. Use a white wreath as long as your walls aren't white as well.

Have fun designing with pre-lit Christmas trees. Christmas time only comes once a year, so why not make it festive and bright with pre-lit Christmas wreathes. It's an investment that will always return smiles and cheer.

LED Christmas Lights

Remember Christmas past dragging out the large box of Christmas lights, and spending hours untangling, and plugging in every stand of lights to make sure they worked. Then trying to find the one light that was burnt out causing the the whole string not to work. More time was spent untangling, and searching than enjoying the time with your family decorating.

They are rated for an average life of 100,000 hours compared to 3,000 hours provided by traditional incandescent mini light strings.  LED Christmas lights are much safer because the bulbs are made of plastic instead of glasss, also they stay cool no matter how long they are on. Just think of the savings, LED lights use ninety percent to ninety nine percent less electricity than the incandescent bulbs. Savings you can use for next Christmas giving.
